Australia's stand-in captain Steve Smith's teammates have often talked about his habit of tapping and testing his bats in odd hours of the day. Smith's wife Dani Willis shared a glimpse of him checking out his new bat.
Dani caught Smith testing his new bat and shadow batting at 1:00 am in the night inside his hotel room in Adelaide. She posted the video on her Instagram handle and it's going viral now.
"Steve Smith checking out his new bat," wrote Dani. Smith reshared the post on his account and he wrote, "Dani Willis caught me again."
Earlier in an interview with Fitzy & Wippa, David Warner had said that Smith tapping and testing his bat in odd hours is nothing new. “A little insight to Steve Smith when you’re in a hotel room. If he’s above you, you ain’t sleeping. All you hear is the tapping all the time. Do you think it’s the cleaners coming in at midnight. You’re like, ‘Nah, that’s just Steve testing his bats,” he said.
“He likes to feel the weight, but he likes to close his eyes, and yeah, that’s how he does it,” added Warner.
Smith led the Australian cricket team in the second Ashes Test in the absence of Pat Cummins. Cummins had come in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case in Adelaide.
Australia defeated England by 275 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. They had defeated the visitors by 9 wickets in the first Test in Brisbane.
