BBL 11: WATCH - Andre Russell survives despite the ball hitting his stumps during Big Bash League match

The zing bails didn't fall off even though the ball made a healthy contact with the middle and off stumps.

Andre Russell's great escape | ScreengrabWest Indies all-rounder Andre Russell on Sunday (December 12) powered Melbourne Stars to a convincing six-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder in the 10th match of Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22.

Chasing 152 to win, Stars were in a spot of bother at 83/4 in the 12th over. Amid the pressure situation, Russell produced his brilliance as he slammed 43 not out off 22 balls to take Melbourne over the line with 17 balls to spare.

Things, however, could have been very different for Russell and his team. During the 15th over of Stars’ innings, Russell survived despite the delivery from Tanveer Sangha hitting his stumps.

After smashing Sangha for a six, Russell got an inside edge on his slog and the ball ended up hitting the stumps. Even though the ball made a healthy contact with the middle and off stumps, the zing bails didn't fall off, leaving both the batter and the bowler perplexed.

Coming to the match, Russell was batting on 33 when this incident took place. He made the most of his good fortune, sharing an unbeaten 72-run stand with Hilton Cartwright (22*) for the fifth wicket to get his team across the line.

Andre Russell’s match-winning knock was studded with 1 four and 5 sixes and he was awarded Player-of-the-Match.
