West Indies debutant Jeremy Solozano was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his helmet in the first Test match against Sri Lanka on Sunday (November 21). Shai Hope replaced him as the substitute fielder after the incident.
Solozano was fielding in the forward short-leg region when a powerful shot by Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne hit him on the front of the helmet's grill.
Unfortunately, the 26-year-old was soon taken off the field on a stretcher; a sight no cricket viewer would ever want to witness.
West Indies cricket board posted an update that the debutant was taken to a hospital for scans. "Debutant Jeremy Solozano was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his helmet while fielding.
"He has been taken to the hospital for scans. We are hoping for a speedy recovery," tweeted the cricket board.
West Indies and Sri Lanka are currently playing the first Test match in Galle. The second Test of the series will be played from November 29 to December 3 at the same venue.
