The whole of India celebrates the festival of lights, Diwali, today. Diwali marks the victory of light over darkness; good over evil and is celebrated by followers of Hinduism all over India and many other countries by lighting diyas and distributing sweets.
It is celebrated on the occasion of the return of Bhagwan Ram to Ayodhya with Devi Sita and brother Laxman after defeating and killing the evil demon king Raavan and his brothers. Bhagwan Ram had been sentenced to exile in forests for 14 years by his father and during that exile, Raavan had abducted Sita, after which the battle of Lanka happened.
