VVS Laxman is considered to be one of the most reliable and stylish batsmen ever produced by India and today on November 1, 2021, he celebrates his 47th birthday.

Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman was born in Hyderabad on November 1, 1974, and played his first Test for India in 1996 against South Africa at Ahmedabad. However, he reserved his best performances for Australia, who bore the brunt of his stylish greatness with the bat and in slips as well.

One of his earliest innings of note was his 167 as an opener in the Sydney Test of 2000. However, the innings he will be remembered for was the epic of 281 against Australia at the memorable Kolkata Test of the 2001 Border Gavaskar Trophy. He and Rahul Dravid batted the entire 4th day to avert a collapse and added a record 376 runs to set an epic win for India.

Apart from playing 134 Tests for India from 1996- 2012, Laxman also played 86 ODIs in his illustrious career, scoring 2338 and 8781 runs respectively with a total of 23 centuries in total. He also played for Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the IPL from 2008-2011.
