Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma posted a message for fans after the franchise got eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). The five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs this season.

Rohit wrote that the outcome of this season can't take away the success they achieved in the IPL 2019 and 2020. MI had won the titles in consecutive years, which made them the only second team to do so after Chennai Super Kings.

"A season full of ups, downs & learnings. But these 14 matches won’t take away the glory this incredible group achieved over the last 2-3 seasons," he wrote on Twitter.

Rohit assured fans that every player in MI jersey gave their best and contributed to the triumph of the franchise. "Every player who don the blue & gold played with pride & gave his best. And that’s what makes us the team we are! ONE FAMILY @mipaltan," he added.

Mumbai won 7 out of 14 matches and finished 5th in the IPL 2021 points table. MI were tied with Kolkata Knight Riders in terms of points, but the latter had a better net run-rate to leave the Rohit-led side behind.

The defending champions needed to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by more than 170 runs to better their net run rate for playoffs qualification in their last league stage match. They scored a huge total of 235/9 but won by only 42 runs.
