WATCH: Varun Chakravarthy expresses delight on T20 World Cup selection

Varun Chakravarthy made his India debut during the Sri Lanka tour in July this year.

Varun Chakravarthy | BCCITeam India recently announced a 15-member squad that will take part in the T20 World Cup 2021. There were a few surprise inclusions and exclusions in the team. Varun Chakravarthy who has played only three T20Is was one of the surprise additions.

The mystery-spinner expressed his delight and gratitude to be included in the squad. He is currently in UAE preparing for the second phase of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

“I feel privileged and honoured to represent India for the World Cup and I hope to really make it count," Varun Chakravarthy was quoted as saying by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) official website.

The architect-turned cricketer kept his calm while expressing his joy and focussed on facing the challenges.

"The bigger duty is in front of us. So, keeping that in mind, I am not celebrating too much now itself," he said.

He further said that players will have an advantage after playing the IPL in the same venues where the T20 World Cup will be held from October 17.

“It will really help the players who are playing here in UAE (for IPL) because you can definitely consider it as a good preparation. Getting to know how the climate is in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and how the dew comes in, how the pitches can play - all this knowledge is certainly going to help us in the World Cup," he said.

The spinner thanked Abhishek Nayar and Dinesh Karthik to have kept faith in him and providing an opportunity to play for KKR despite numerous injuries.

"I would like to thank Abhishek Nayar for having faith in me and picking me up for KKR. Dinesh Karthik has a big role too for whatever I am today. After 2019 IPL, I was carrying an injury and I couldn't play any domestic cricket. But KKR still had faith in me and picked me," he added.

KKR will resume their IPL campaign on 20 September against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
