This came after his last international match for South Africa came in 2020.

Steyn had previously retired from Test cricket in 2019 due to the effect of various injuries but had continued to play in limited-overs international matches for Proteas and featured in T20 leagues around the world.

He played 93 Tests (439 wickets), 125 ODIs (196 wickets), and 47 T20Is (64 wickets). He had made his debut for Africa XI against Asia XI in 2005 at Centurion, while made his Test debut against England in 2004.

Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful. Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together," Dale Steyn's message read.

Steyn had a storied career that saw him play in multiple World Cups including reaching the semi-finals in the 2015 edition and winning multiple series, including a brilliant performance against India in Nagpur Test in 2010.

As he bid adieu to the game he enriched with his talent and performances, the cricket fraternity celebrated and paid tribute to an amazing career Dale Steyn had in international and other cricket.
