"I have always worn the flag on my helmet with pride," Sachin Tendulkar wishes fans on Independence Day

Sachin Tendulkar was the first Indian cricketer to put Indian flag on helmet.

India cricket great Sachin Tendulkar wished Indians across the globe a very happy Independence Day on Sunday (August 15). He also mentioned about the tri-color flag on his helmet during playing days in his post.

Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar wrote that he used to wear the flag on his helmet with pride. It always reminded him why he stepped on the field. “I have always worn the flag on my helmet with pride and it always reminded me why I stepped on the field,” he wrote.

"Wish a very Happy 75th #IndependenceDay to all the Indians across the globe. Jai Hind!", he further added in the tweet.

Tendulkar was the first Indian cricketer who had the Indian flag on his helmet. After him, cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Yuvraj Singh also started putting the Indian flag on their helmets.

The 48-year-old was also stunned by a stat on the 75th Independence Day. A stat revealed, before Tendulkar scored 74 in his final Test match against West Indies, he had exactly 15847 Test runs which is similar to India's day of independence, 15-8-47.

"Kabhi socha nahi tha ki numbers aisa bhi khel khel sakte hai. What a coincidence! Happy Independence Day," wrote Tendulkar while reacting to the amazing stat.
