WATCH - Jasprit Bumrah congratulates Neeraj Chopra on winning gold medal in Olympics

Neeraj Chopra became the only second Indian individual to win a gold in Olympics.

India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the gold medal in the Javelin throw at the 2020 Olympics. Neeraj became the first Indian to win a medal in track-and-field at the Olympics.

Bumrah, who's currently playing the Test match against England at Trent Bridge, expressed his feelings on the gold medal win by Neeraj in a press conference. He congratulated the Olympic medal winner and said the team got to know about it during the lunch break as they were on the field.

Neeraj, the star Javelin thrower left everyone behind in the competition with an 87.58m throw in the final. Only Abhinav Bindra had won individual gold for India in Olympics.

“We got to know about the news when we came inside for lunch. And we were hearing that he was in the finals, so congratulations. Just participating in the Olympics is a big achievement, representing your country a lot of hard work goes there.

“And you get gold medal, first gold medal in track and field so, it is a big achievement. Proud of all the athletes who were there and whenever they achieve and whenever they represent the country, it is a great sign and we are very happy for them,” he said.

In the first Test, the Indian pacer, Bumrah was outstanding with the ball in both innings. He bagged nine wickets in the match which included a fifer in the second innings at Trent Bridge on Saturday (August 7).
