Cricket fraternity lauds fighting spirit of India women's hockey team in Olympics

India women's team came close to winning a medal in the Tokyo Olympics but they lost the bronze medal match against Great Britain by 4-3 on Friday (August 6). It was a hard-fought match and India had even managed to take a lead after being 0-2 down at one stage in the match. 

However, a goal from Great Britain in the last quarter put India behind in the match and they couldn't level the score. Despite the defeat, India's cricket fraternity applauded the outstanding performance of the women's hockey team.

They were not among the favorites to qualify for the semi-final or even quarter-final, but Rani Rampal and company showed great fighting spirit to first enter the knockouts and then defeat Australia's women's hockey team in the quarterfinal.

They later lost to Argentina in the semi-final to play the bronze medal match which also didn't end in their favor. But the overall effort would surely make a huge difference in Indian hockey which was struggling to get the limelight in the country.
