The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a strong stand against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) approved Kashmir Premier League (KPL). They have reportedly written to the International Cricket Council (ICC), urging them to not recognize KPL.

Amid all the controversy, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has posted a tweet and wrote that he will be joining as the Peace Ambassador for KPL. Earlier, PCB had accused BCCI of warning other cricket boards from allowing their cricketers to take part in the controversial tournament.

"Why such a fuss between @kpl_20 & BCCI. It’s about building bridges and promoting peace. Really appreciate all of you for the trend #ShoaibAkhtarPeaceAmbassador So I'll be joining as Peace Ambassador for KPL :)", wrote Akhtar on Twitter.

PCB is due to organize the Kashmir Premier League in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) from August 6. KPL has six teams in the tournament which are named Overseas Warriors, Muzaffarabad Tigers, Rawalakot Hawks, Bagh Stallions, Mirpur Royals, and Kotli Lions.

There has been political tension between the two countries over the disputed area. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series against each other since 2012-13.
