Indian cricket fraternity congratulates Mirabai Chanu on winning silver medal in Olympics 2020

Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the Women's 49kg category of weightlifting.

Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal and became the first Indian to win a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She finished at number two in the Women's 49kg weightlifting category, which was topped by China's Hou Zhihui.

The Indian cricket fraternity congratulated Mirabai on the silver medal win. India cricket great Sachin Tendulkar was in awe of her display of weightlifting. "Absolutely amazing display of weightlifting. The way you have transformed yourself after your injury and clinched a historic silver for #TeamIndia is absolutely stupendous. You have made India very proud. #Tokyo2020 #Olympics," he tweeted.

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag said "remember the name" after Mirabai made India proud with her performance. "Ghazab. Bhartiya Naari Sab par Bhaari. #MirabaiChanu , remember the name. Thank you for making us all proud @mirabai_chanu , and winning us a Silver at the Olympics. Many more to come. #Tokyo2020," his tweet read.

Mirabai, who entered the Tokyo Olympics as World No. 2, lifted 115 kg for her 2nd attempt in the Clean and Jerk section. Earlier, in the snatch section, she had lifted 87kg.

Cricketer-turned-politician, Gautam Gambhir wrote that the whole of India is proud of her achievement. "1.3 billion Indians proud of #MirabaiChanu! जय हिंद," the tweet read.
