Pakistan team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the new-look England team in the third ODI at Birmingham on July 13. With this defeat, the Babar Azam-led side was handed a 3-0 whitewash by Ben Stokes’ England team, which had many new players in the side.
Pakistan was at their full strength in the whole ODI series, going against essentially a second-string England team thanks to the first-choice players being in quarantine after 7 members tested positive for COVID-19 after the Sri Lanka series.
Many expected Pakistan to rout England in the 3-ODI series but instead were humiliated in all three matches. The Men in Green were bowled out for 141 in the first ODI, couldn’t chase down a 248-run target in the second ODI.
In the third match, Pakistan had the best chance to win the match and save some face. Babar Azam hit 158 and half-centuries from Imam-Ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan took them to 331/9 in 50 overs.
Hassan Ali gave them the perfect start, removing Dawid Malan for a duck and then Pakistan kept taking wickets regularly. However, James Vince’s 102 and Lewis Gregory’s 77 was enough for England to go past the finishing line with 3 wickets in hand and 2 overs to spare.
This meant that a full-strength Pakistan team was routed 3-0 by a second-string England team in an ODI series and this evoked strong reactions from fans and experts on social media.
Here are some of the tweets from the cricket fraternity who reacted to Pakistan’s 3-0 ODI series loss to England.
