Anurag Thakur is a former President of BCCI and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association | PTIFormer BCCI President and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association President Anurag Thakur has been handed the union ministries of sports and information and broadcasting in the BJP government cabinet reshuffle on July 7, 2021.

Thakur, a BJP MP from Hamirpur, was previously a state minister for finance in the current BJP government and is among six junior ministers who have been promoted to the union cabinet. Apart from him, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri, Parshottam Rupala, G Kishan Reddy, Mansukh Mandaviya are the other promoted ministers.

He will take over as sports minister from Kiren Rijiju, who has been handed the law ministry, and will take the I&B ministry from Ravi Shankar Prasad who has resigned from his post.

Thakur, 46, has been a key figure in the BCCI and wishes poured in from the members of the Indian cricket fraternity who congratulated him on his appointment as the new sports minister.
