Indian cricket fraternity condoles the demise of legendary athlete Milkha Singh

Milkha Singh passed away late on Friday due to COVID-19 complications.

Milkha Singh | TwitterOne of India’s greatest athletes, Milkha Singh, passed away late on Friday (June 18) due to COVID-19 complications.

Singh had contracted the virus last month and took his last breath in a hospital in the northern city of Chandigarh.

Popularly known as "the Flying Sikh", Milkha Singh’s exploits on the track and field are legendary, to say the least. He won four Asian gold medals and finished fourth in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

Moreover, Singh secured five golds in international athletic championships and was awarded the Helms World Trophy in 1959 for winning 77 of his 80 international races. He also clinched India's first Commonwealth gold medal in 1958.

In 2013, his legendary career was celebrated through a Bollywood film titled “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.

India's former and current cricketers expressed deep sadness after Milkha Singh’s demise and took to Twitter to pay their tributes.
