While the on-field duel was intense, Akram and Lara have nothing but mutual respect for each other.

On Friday (June 11), the Pakistan pace legend posted a tweet, in which he revealed that Lara surprised him when the two met in a charity event and the West Indies batting giant asked him to sign a boot.

"The Prince of Trinidad never ceases to amaze, years after retirement from the game! We met at a charity and he brought this shoe with him to make sure I would sign it - he'd held on to it since 1992 WC when I hit him on the toe (after he got 88!) Hold a grudge much, @BrianLara'" Akram wrote on Twitter.

In that 1992 World Cup match, Brian Lara got retired hurt as Wasim Akram’s toe-crunching yorker landed on his boot, the same one he now has had signed from the bowler.

Despite Lara getting retired hurt on 88, West Indies convincingly won that game by 10 wickets as Desmond Haynes slammed 93 not out to chase Pakistan’s 220/2 with 19 balls to spare.
