Priya Punia's mother passes away due to COVID-19

Many cricketers have lost their loved ones due to COVID-19.

India is undergoing a severe health crisis at the moment with the second wave of COVID-19 wreaking havoc across the country. With the second wave of coronavirus raging havoc across the country many cricketers have also lost their loved ones. 

Former Indian cricketers RP Singh and Piyush Chawla lost their respective fathers while Indian women's cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy suffered a double blow with the tragic demise of her mother and sister.

However, in the latest development, Indian women's team member Priya Punia lost her mother. The cricketer took to her Instagram account and informed about the sad news and urged people to stay safe and stay strong.

“Today I realized why you always told me to be strong. You knew that one day I would need the strength to bear the loss of yours. I miss you so mom! No matter the distance I know you are always there with me. My guiding star, my mom. Love you always. 

“Some truths in life are hard to accept. Your memories will never be forgotten! Rest In Peace Mom. Please follow the rules and take precautions. This virus is very dangerous. Wear a mask, maintain social distancing, stay safe and stay strong,” Priya Punia said. 

Priya Punia has played in 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is and was recently named in the Indian ODI for the three ODIs and Test squad for the one-off Test match during the upcoming tour of England.
