Piyush Chawla's father passes away from post-COVID complications

Chawla shared the news with his fans and well-wishers on social media.

India cricketer Piyush Chawla's father passed away on Monday (May 10). He took to Instagram to share the sad news and confirmed that his father was suffering from "covid and post covid complications".

Chawla posted a picture of his father Pramod Kumar Chawla and wrote that his life won't be the same. "Life won’t be the same without him anymore, lost my pillar of strength today.????????????," he wrote.

"With the deepest grief, we announce that my beloved father, Mr Pramod Kumar Chawla, left for the heavenly abode on 10th May 2021. He was suffering from covid and post covid complications. We invite your kind thoughts and prayers in this difficult times. May his noble soul rest in peace," he further wrote.

Chawla's IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI) also offered condolences on Twitter. MI had got the veteran spinner into their squad for INR 2.40 crore in the IPL 2021 Auction.

"Our thoughts go out to Piyush Chawla who lost his father, Mr. Pramod Kumar Chawla this morning. We are with you and your family in this difficult time. Stay strong," tweeted Mumbai Indians.

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan also posted solace for Chawla in this tough time. "My dear brother Piyush Chawla's father, Pramod uncle is no more. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I pray that you go thru this difficult time with patience. Uncle was a great soul and full of life. COVID has taken one more life!," tweeted Pathan.
