Former England captain Michael Vaughan has slammed the national team management for not giving enough opportunities to the experienced all-rounder Moeen Ali on the India tour after the touring suffered another series loss to Team India on Saturday (March 20).
After losing the Test series to India, wherein Moeen played only one match before returning home as part of England’s controversial rotation policy, England has now lost the five-match T20I series 2-3 also following their 36-run defeat in the final game on Saturday in Ahmedabad.
In the recent five-match T20I series, England preferred to go in with Adil Rashid as the lone spinner while stuck with the young all-rounder Sam Curran for providing the late flourish as Moeen warmed the benches for the entire series, and unfortunately, they both failed to make any significant impact.
Following another series loss, Vaughan questioned England’s tactics of not giving enough games to the all-rounder on the India tour while taking a dig at the team management by saying Moeen has to be the greatest energy drinks mixer of all time.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, the 46-year old also expressed his displeasure at the fact that Moeen missed a couple of Tests not to feature in any T20I match in India.
Vaughan wrote on Twitter: “Moeen Ali must be the greatest energy drinks mixer of all time … Missed two Tests to not play a game in the T20 series … !!! #OnOn #INDvENG”
Noteworthy, Moeen, however, has been named in England’s 14-man ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against India and it will be interesting to see if the all-rounder gets a chance in the series opener on March 23 (Tuesday) in Pune.
England ODI squad:
Eoin Morgan (Captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Livingstone, Matt Parkinson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.
