Pakistani wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed showed a bit of resurgence as a batsman in the recently halted Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021). He led the Quetta Gladiators in the tournament, who were last on the point table with 4 losses in five matches.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has seen a fall from glory, becoming the second choice wicketkeeper behind Mohammad Rizwan, who has grabbed the opportunities he got with both hands and cemented his place in all formats of international cricket.
However, Sarfaraz has been at odds against the Pakistani journalists who have been taking digs at him, right from his infamous yawn against India in the 2019 World Cup match. He was removed from captaincy and even dropped from the team in the aftermath in an inglorious fashion, becoming the butt of jokes for Pakistani media.
Recently in a match between Quetta and Islamabad United, Sarfaraz Ahmed shocked everyone by hitting Iftikhar Ahmed for four consecutive sixes in an over. He scored 54 in 41 balls with 3 fours as well, taking Gladiators to 156/7. However, Islamabad achieved the target losing only 4 wickets.
Geo News reporter Faizan Lakhani took a dig at Sarfaraz’s four sixes by sharing a video of a comedy show in which the person says “ Iftikhar, O Iftikhar, mujhe tu akela aake mil (come meet me alone Iftikhar)”. He also tagged fellow Geo News anchor Muhammad Junaid in the tweet.
Junaid quoted Lakhani’s tweet and took another dig at Sarfaraz using his yawn against Indian team and tweeted, “Hahah Sarfaraz is awake after a deep sleep and yawning for a while”
This didn’t sit down well with Sarfaraz Ahmed who replied to Junaid tweeting, “Mere bare me itna Mat soucha karo tabiyat kharab jo jaye Ge. Tum jaise logo ke souch nazer aajate hai tum kis tarah souch te ho (You will feel unwell if you think so much about me. People like you show your mindset by the way you think).”
