WI v SL 2021: WATCH – Kieron Pollard smashes 6 sixes in an over during first T20I against Sri Lanka

Pollard became only the second player after Yuvraj Singh to hit 6 sixes in an over in a T20I game.

Pollard smashed 6 sixes in an over | West Indies Cricket/TwitterWest Indies skipper Kieron Pollard on Wednesday (March 3) created history as he smashed 6 sixes in an over during the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Antigua.

Akila Dananjaya, who earlier claimed hat-trick in the match by dismissing Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran, was the victim of Pollard’s assault.

Chasing 132 to win, the hosts were struggling at 52/3 when Pollard arrived at the crease. The West Indies captain didn’t take much time to get going, wreaking havoc on Dananjaya in the sixth over.

Pollard smoked him to all parts of the ground as he became only the second player after Yuvraj Singh to hit 6 sixes in an over in a T20 international and the third player to achieve the feat in all international formats.

While Yuvraj did it against England’s Stuart Broad in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs had pulled it off in the same year against Netherlands during the ODI World Cup.

Kieron Pollard was eventually dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga for 11-ball 38 but West Indies overhauled the target with 4 wickets and 41 balls to spare.

Following the game, Pollard said he thought 6 sixes was a possibility “after the third one.”

“I just had to come out and back myself,” he said at the presentation ceremony. “It was something the team needed. I didn’t see the hat- trick, I only heard. But I still had to come out and do what the team required at that point in time.”
