Ashwin, Karthik congratulate Du Plessis on a successful Test career; CSK says "See you soon!"

Faf du Plessis announced retirement from Test cricket to shift focus on T20I.

The former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday (February 17). India cricketers R Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik congratulated him on a successful Test career.

Du Plessis, in his retirement statement, said he wants to focus more on T20 cricket with two World Cups lined up. He has made T20 cricket his priority at the moment.

Ashwin took to Twitter and said those who played with and against him will miss his presence in the longest format of cricket. "Well done @faf1307 , you will be missed by those who played with and against you. ????????????????????????," he tweeted.

Du Plessis has led the South Africa cricket team in red-ball cricket and has played overall 69 Test matches. 

Karthik congratulated the Proteas cricketer and sent good wishes for the future. "Congrats on a lovely Test career and more power to you in the future. Go well @faf1307", he wrote.

The 36-year-old expressed gratitude for his Test career through a post on Instagram. "If someone had told me 15 years ago, that I would play 69 Test matches for South Africa and captain the side, I wouldn't have believed them. I stand in a place of utmost gratitude for a test career full of blessings bestowed on me. Every high and low has shaped me into the man I am proud to stand as today. In all things, those instances worked towards the good of who I believe I am today.", he wrote in his retirement statement. 

Du Plessis will be seen playing the upcoming Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. The franchise remembered his knock against Australia in 2012-13 to draw the match.
