India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has extended his support for the people of Uttarakhand after a glacier burst in the state on Sunday (February 7).

In a tweet, Pant, who hails from Uttarakhand's Roorkee, expressed grief over the loss of lives in this disaster before adding that he will donate his match fee for the rescue efforts.

"Deeply pained by the loss of life in Uttarakhand. Would like to donate my match fee for the rescue efforts and would urge more people to help out," he wrote on Twitter.

Rishabh Pant once again proved his worth with the bat as he smashed 91 off 88 balls in India’s first innings in the ongoing Chennai Test against England.

Even though the hosts were reeling on 73/4 at one stage, Pant didn’t curb his attacking instincts. The southpaw shared a 119-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara to bail the team out of trouble.

However, Pant threw his wicket away with a poor shot off Dom Bess as India finished the third day on 257/6.

Coming to the calamity, a glacier broke in the Tapovan-Reni area of Chamoli District of Uttarakhand that led to a massive flooding in Dhauliganga and Alaknanda Rivers and damaged houses and the nearby Rishiganga power project.

"It is suspected that around 100 workers were at the site out of which, 9-10 dead bodies have been recovered from the river," said SS Deswal, Director General, ITBP.
