Indian cricketers react to Rihanna, Thunberg tweets on farmers protest in India

Tendulkar was the first to tweet on Wednesday evening.

Indian cricketers urge countrymen to stay unitedThe ongoing farmers protest, which has paralyzed life on borders of India’s capital Delhi, has gained national and international attention. Pop star Rihanna and activist Greta Thunberg took to Twitter supporting the protestors who want the union government to repeal the new Farm laws.

The protest has been going on since November 2020 and saw violent clashes between protestors and Delhi police, which saw protestors taking over the red fort.

This led to government shutting off the internet, electricity and other facilities to dissuade the protestors and asked them clear the sites and borders.

Rihanna tweeted about the internet shutoff, while Thunberg showed solidarity with the protestors. This led to the Ministry of External Affairs reacting sharply to tweets from the two international celebrities.

Now several cricketers have come in support of government and slammed Rihanna and Thunberg’s tweets, terming them interfering in India’s internal matters.

“India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants. Indians know India and should decide for India. Let’s remain united as a nation,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Meanwhile Tendulkar’s former teammate and BJP MP from Delhi, Gautam Gambhir posted “Outside forces have been trying to divide us, rule over us for centuries. But India remains & will thrive come what may! Use your billions, try your best! This is the New India.”

Apart from them, Suresh Raina, Ravi Shastri, Shikhar Dhawan and other Indian cricketers also wrote tweets. Here are some of them:
