Ajinkya Rahane and his men left the cricket fraternity and their fans awestruck as they put up an inspired show against Australia in the third Test, as they fought tooth and nail and managed to eke out a draw in the SCG Test.
Former Indian captain and the current BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, has heaped high praise on Team India for spearheading the visitors to an epic draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
While chasing 407 in the fourth innings, India had 8 wickets in the hand and the Indian batsman showed great resilience on the final day to pull off a draw in the third Test against Australia at the SCG.
After the dismissal of skipper Ajinkya Rahane, the quartet of Cheteshwar Pujara (77 off 205 balls), Rishabh Pant (97 off 118 balls), Hanuma Vihari (23* off 161 balls) and R Ashwin (39* off 128 balls) held the fort for Team India in what was a true display of grit, defiance, and character.
BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, was full of praise for the trio of Ashwin, Pant, and Pujara as the visiting batsmen played a vital role in India’s effort to draw the Test match and urged Team India to now win the series in Brisbane.
”Hope all of us realise the importance of pujara,pant and Ashwin in cricket teams..batting at 3 in test cricket against quality bowling is not always hitting through the line ..almost 400 test wickets don’t come just like that..well fought india..time to win the series.” Sourav Ganguly tweeted.
With today’s draw, the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy stays leveled at 1-1. Both the teams will now look to clinch the series as they face each other in the series decider at Gabba, Brisbane, starting 15th January.
