The recent BBL 10 match between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers proved to be a humdinger of sorts, which saw a record 10th-wicket partnership by Strikers almost threatening Hurricanes with a loss.
Hurricanes batted first and scored 174/5 with D’Arcy Short making 72 and contributions from Will Jacks (34) and Colin Ingram (25), who was brilliantly caught by Rashid Khan on the boundary off Peter Siddle. Tim David also helped with a quick 21*. Wes Agar with 2/28 was the best Strikers bowler.
In reply, Hurricanes had Strikers reeling at 78/7 in the 12th over and 102/9 in the 15th. However, Daniel Worrall (62*) and Danny Briggs (35*) helped add 61 unbeaten runs for the tenth wicket. But Strikers fell 12 runs short of the target.
James Faulkner picked 3/21, while Botha and Meredith picked two wickets each. Faulkner was also involved in a funny situation during his time with the bat.
During the Hurricanes’ batting, in the last over bowled by Peter Siddle, Faulkner, who was on the non-strikers' end, had some fun time with Siddle. As Siddle came into the bowl the last ball of the 20th over, Siddle left his crease as the bowler was in his bowling stride.
Siddle pulled out from bowling the ball and asked Faulkner to stay inside the crease. To this Faulkner remained outside, gesturing Siddle to run him out or Mankad him. This was a hilarious banter between two Australian international cricketers and brought the end to the proceedings on a lighter note.
