Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh turned 39 on Saturday (December 12). Instead of celebrating his birthday this year, the 2011 World Cup winner wished for a speedy resolution of the ongoing conflict between farmers and the central government over the new agricultural laws.
Taking to Twitter, Yuvraj highlighted the importance of farmers to the nation and hoped for a resolution through peaceful dialogue with the central government.
"Undoubtedly, farmers are the lifeblood of the nation and he believed that the problem could be resolved through peaceful dialogue."
"Birthdays are an opportunity to fulfill a wish or desire and this birthday, rather than celebrating, I only wish and pray for a swift resolution of the ongoing talks between our farmers and our government" he wrote.
Expressing disappointment with the speech made by his father Yograj Singh a few days ago, Yuvraj clarified that he doesn’t endorse the views of his father.
Yuvraj said: "I am saddened and upset by the statements made by Mr Yograj Singh. I wish to clarify that his remarks have been made in an individual capacity and my ideologies are not the same in any manner."
Speaking at the Singhu border, Yograj had said: "Farmers are demanding the right thing, the government should listen to them. It is really high time that the government should come up with solutions in this regard and I back all those sportspersons who are returning their prestigious award."
Yuvraj also urged people to take precautionary measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still wreaking havoc across the globe.
"I also urge everyone to continue taking precautions to fight against Covid-19. The pandemic isnot over yet and we need to continue to be careful to defeat the virus completely."
Yuvraj Singh concluded his statement with the slogan: "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan! Jai Hind."
