He announced retirement from all forms of the game. Parthiv Patel, 35, represented India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 2 T20Is. In domestic cricket, he played for Gujarat in 194 first-class matches.

Parthiv remains the youngest wicketkeeper to debut in Test cricket when he was picked in the Indian team for the Nottingham Test match in 2002. He was 17 years and 153 days old. He continued on playing 19 of 20 Tests India played since his debut.

However, a decline in his keeping skills and the rise of Dinesh Karthik first and then MS Dhoni put Parthiv on the backburner. He was called up for sporadic appearances, the last of which came on the tour of South Africa in 2018.

Though he struggled to find a permanent place in the Indian team, Parthiv featured heavily in the Indian Premier League, winning the IPL title multiple times with various franchises. He played 139 IPL matches, making 2848 runs with 13 fifties at a strike rate of 120.78 and had 85 dismissals in all.

Parthiv Patel was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in the recent IPL 2020 but didn’t get a game with RCB choosing AB de Villiers and Joshua Philippe as the keepers, with Devdutt Padikkal opening the innings.

Parthiv led Gujarat to Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy victories during his tenure as the captain of the state’s Ranji team.

Today, when he bids adieu to professional cricket, Parthiv received warm wishes from the Indian cricket fraternity on Twitter.
