Suresh Raina celebrates his 34th birthday and receives wishes from Indian cricket fraternity

The dashing left-hander from Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh, made his debut for India in 2005 and played his last game for them in 2018.

Raina, also captained India in a handful of matches, including a full ODI series against West Indies, but is remembered most for his amazing fielding and eye-catching batting lower down the order. He played 226 ODIs, making 5615 runs at an average of 35.31 with 5 centuries to his name. He made 768 runs in 18 Tests and made 1605 runs in 78 T20I matches with one century.

He was the first Indian to score a century in T20I cricket and the first batsman from India to make centuries in all three formats in international cricket, given that he has made a century on Test debut against Sri Lanka. He was also in India's 2013 champions Trophy win as well.

Raina, is a legend of IPL cricket, with 5368 runs in 193 games for Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions. He has made 1 century and 38 half-centuries, at a strike-rate of 137.14. He was part of Chennai’s all three IPL wins in 2010, 2011, and 2018.

After struggling with injuries and forms, and having played his last international match for India against England in 2018, Raina called time on his career on August 15, 2020. This was the same day when MS Dhoni announced his retirement as well.

Suresh Raina was chosen by Jonty Rhodes, widely recognized as the best fielder in international cricket, as one of his five all-time favorite fielders.
