Close to 200 people lost their lives when Pakistan-based terrorists held Mumbai hostage for 4 days.

A burning Taj Hotel which saw heavy firing and use of grenade during the hostage situationToday, November 26, 2020, marks the 12th anniversary of the dastardly and cowardly terrorist attacks carried out in Mumbai, India by militants from Pakistan-based terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba. The whole operation lasted four days and resulted in the deaths of atleast 174 people, including 9 attackers and over 300 were injured.

Places like the Mumbai Central railway station, The Oberoi Trident, The Taj Palace, Cama Hospital, Nariman House, and Metro Cinema amongst others saw the attackers shooting down innocent people in coordinated attacks. There was also an explosion at Mazagaon, in Mumbai's port area, and in a taxi at Vile Parle.

Ajmal Kasab was the sole survivor from the attackers and was caught thanks to the bravery of Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble, who succeeded in catching him with his bare hands but costing him his life. Kasab was later hanged after a lengthy trial in Pune's Yerwada jail in 2012.

The operation also saw the deaths of the Chief of the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad, Hemant Karkare, ACP Ashok Kamte, officer Vijay Salaskar, NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred while combating terrorists in the Taj hotel, amongst countless others.

Today as people remember the bravery of martyrs of that needless and cowardly attack, and pay tributes to other innocent lives lost at the hands of terrorists, the Indian cricket fraternity also took to Twitter to pay homage to the fallen.
