As Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement completed seven years on Monday (November 16), the Master Blaster has revealed a “wonderful gift” given by Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, and Cricket West Indies (CWI).

After serving India for more than two decades, Sachin brought curtains to his illustrious career on November 16, 2013, after his 200th Test match against the West Indies at his home ground – Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai – which turned out to be one of the most emotional tributes in the history of cricket.

In his farewell game, the talismanic batsman managed to score 74 runs before he became the priced scalp for Narsingh Deonarine in the first innings, as India won the Test game by an innings and 126 runs inside three days in Mumbai against the West Indies.

On the seventh anniversary of his retirement, the legendary batsman shared a video on his social media account to share a “wonderful gift” with his fans given by his dear friend Lara, Gayle, and Windies Board as he expressed gratitude towards them for their wonderful gesture on the day of his retirement.

CWI and the Caribbean legends gifted the iconic batsman a traditional Caribbean drum set on his final day in Indian jersey and Tendulkar thanked them for their love and respect.

In the video, the Indian great can be seen playing with the drum set as well as revealed that when Lara had visited his home, he had played the instrument and it sounded amazing.

He captioned the post: “#OnThisDay 7️⃣ years ago @windiescricket and my friends @BrianLara & @henrygayle presented me with this beautiful steel drum. I will always be grateful for such a wonderful gift and thank them for their love and respect. Thank you once again.”

Tendulkar said in the video, “Exactly seven years ago, on this very day I was presented with this beautiful steel drums by the West Indian cricket board, the entire team and my dear friend Brian Lara. To me, this represents the Love and respect that you have had for me and I reciprocate that. Thank you so very much for the special gift.”

He added, “I remember when Brian Lara had come home, he had played this and it sounded amazing. Let’s see if I can play a bit. I know it’s not gonna sound like that, but this is my tribute to all of you. Thank you for everything that you have done for me.”

Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to the legendary cricketer by sharing the post by Tendulkar, saying “that iconic day will never be forgotten”.

He wrote on Twitter: “This iconic day will never be forgotten! U might have retired on the field but u will never retire from our hearts Heart suit the greatest of all-time master blaster !!! Raising hands.”
