India captain Virat Kohli was slammed by Twitterati for urging people to celebrate an environment-friendly Diwali. Kohli took to Twitter and shared his message with his followers.

Virat advised people to protect the environment and avoid bursting crackers. He told his fans to enjoy the festival by spending more time with their families.

“A very happy Diwali from me to you and your families. May God bless you with peace, prosperity, and happiness this Diwali. Please remember do not burst crackers, protect the environment, and have fun at home with your loved ones with a simple diya and sweets on this auspicious occasion. God bless you all, take care.”, he said.

The National Green Tribunal had banned the sale and use of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR till the end of November to make sure the situation there doesn't get worse. Delhi already has poor air-quality and it gets worse during Diwali.

Fans supported the words by Kohli. They trended 'I Stand With Virat' hashtag on Twitter and lauded him for being vocal. The hashtag came after some of the Twitterati didn't agree with the India cricketer and reacted to it negatively.
