Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Hardik Pandya supported the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, when he took a knee in the IPL 2020 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (October 25).

Pandya thrashed RR bowlers and scored an unbeaten 21-ball 60. After reaching his half-century in the last over, Pandya went down on his knees and raised his right arm.

MI's stand-in skipper, the West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard responded by raising his right fist.

Hardik posted a picture of his gesture on his social media accounts and wrote, "BlackLivesMatter". He became the first player in the Indian Premier League to support the movement.

Earlier this month, West Indies Test captain and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) cricketer Jason Holder had expressed his disappointment over no support to BLM in IPL. “To be honest, I haven’t had one conversation up here around it (BLM). Sometimes it seems it has gone unnoticed, which is a sad thing.

“I guess it’s for us to re-highlight the importance of it, for people to understand what is happening in the world,” Holder had said.
