Sachin Tendulkar is a name that doesn’t need any introduction. His records and life story are known to every die-hard and even casual cricket fan and they also know that he hit 100 international centuries.
51 of those came in Test cricket, while 49 came in ODI cricket over a period of 24 years, as Tendulkar had made his debut in 1989 against Pakistan. He scored his maiden Test century against England in Manchester in 1990 but had to wait till 1994 and 79 ODIs, to score his maiden ODI century.

That moment came on this day, in 1994 when India played Australia in Sri Lanka during the Singer World Series. The match was played at the R Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama and India batted first after Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and chose to bat.
Opening with Manoj Prabhakar, Tendulkar slammed 110 in 130 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. India put on 246/8 on the board, thanks to contributions from Vinod Kambli (43*), Azhar (31), and a couple of 20s from Prabhakar and Sidhu.
Tendulkar played the major role in the stand, playing some beautiful cover drives, flicks, and lofted shots over the mid-on region for boundaries. With wickets tumbling every now and then at the other end, he had to curtail his aggression.
In reply, though Mark Waugh made 61 and David Boon made 40, Prabhakar’s 3/34 and Rajesh Chauhan’s 2 wickets were enough to keep Australia to 215 runs. India won the match by 31 runs and Sachin Tendulkar was named the Player of the Match.
