As per Spanish media reports, Messi, whose contract runs out in May 2021, faxed a message to FC Barcelona on Tuesday night, asking to be released immediately by triggering a rare clause, which will allow making his exit smooth.

Since the news broke, tongues have started wagging at what next for the famous Messi, as speculations have started which teams might be interested in buying the footballer, who comes with a hefty price tag.

Meanwhile, along with football clubs, a couple of Indian Premier League clubs have also decided to enter the fray and took advantage of the massive social media engagement that has been going around since Messi’s announcement.

Delhi Capitals tweeted, “In light of recent rumors, Delhi Capitals would like to confirm that a bid for #LionelMessi has not been made.”

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders decided to invite Messi to wear the purple and the gold, with his face photoshopped onto a KKR kit.

Messi joined FC Barcelona aged 13. He made the first team debut at 16 and since then, helped them scale unprecedented heights, and established the Catalan side as the best football club in the world.
