The Lanka Premier League (LPL T20) is slated to begin from 28th August and end on 20th September. All arrangements are underway for the first edition of the much-awaited league, which will see five teams competing for the title.
A Sri Lankan icon player would get a salary cap of US$ 60,000, while a top cricketer would be in the range of US$ 50,000 to 40,000. Others would fit into the US$ 40,000 to 30,000 and US$ 20,000 to 10,000 ranges, depending on their stature. International players are expected to be in the US$ 10,000 to 60,000 range.
The 23 matches of the IPL T20 will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Pallekele, and Dambulla. And as per the Sunday Times newspaper, the proposed names for the five teams were unveiled.
Liam Plunkett, Tim Southee listed among 93 international players for LPL T20: report
They are Colombo Super Kings, Galle Lions, Kandy Royals, Jaffna Sunrises, and Dambulla Capitals. It was also mentioned that two more franchises will be added from the second year onwards.
However, the Sri Lankan fans didn’t react too well to the proposed names, which are quite similar to the franchise names in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which have the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals.
The fans unleashed their frustration at the lack of creativity by the league officials in naming the franchise on Twitter.
