In May this year, Shahid Afridi had made controversial comments against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
As expected, Afridi’s remarks met with severe backlash in India from all quarters. In fact, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, who extended help to Shahid Afridi Foundation in its fight COVID-19 just a few days back also hit back at the former Pakistan all-rounder.
"This is very upsetting what Shahid Afridi has come up with, talking ill about our country and our Prime Minister. This is just not acceptable. To be honest, he (Afridi) asked us to make an appeal for his charity. In good faith, we did it for humanity and for the people suffering due to the coronavirus. But this man is talking ill about our country. All I have to say is we have nothing to do with Shahid Afridi. He has no right to speak ill against our country and he should stay in his country and limits," Harbhajan had told Sports Tak.
On the other hand, Yuvraj had tweeted: "Really disappointed by @SAfridiOfficial's comments on our Hon'b PM @narendramodi ji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again."
Recently, Afridi reacted on Harbhajan and Yuvraj’s remarks against him, saying he “still have respect for both”.
On Wednesday (July 29), Afridi conducted a Question and Answer session on Twitter, wherein a fan asked him: "Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have said that we do not have any kind of friendship with Shahid Afridi anymore. So what would you like to say about them?"
In reply, Afridi wrote: "We have old and strong relations and I still have respect for both".
