Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma extend support to Assam, Bihar flood victims

Kohli said he has joined hands with three organisations to help the people.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials, more than 16 lakh people in 1,536 villages across 21 of Assam's 33 districts are still affected by flood. Over 100 human lives have been lost in the state due to the devastating floods.

In Bihar, more than 20 lakh people have been affected by the floods and many lives have been lost.

Taking to Twitter, Kohli stated that he and Anushka are supporting three organisations who are working for the cause. He also urged others to help the needy in this time of crisis.

"While our country is in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, people in Assam and Bihar are also suffering due to the devastating floods that have affected so many lives and livelihood. While we continue to pray for the people in Assam & Bihar, Anushka and I have also pledged to help those in need by supporting these three organisations that have been doing credible work in flood relief & welfare. If this resonates with you, please reach out to support these states through these organisations," the Indian captain wrote.

Earlier, Kohli and Anushka have also come forward with donations in PM-CARES Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra) to help fight the novel Coronavirus outbreak.

Virat Kohli was last seen in action during the tour of New Zealand earlier this year. He is expected to hit the ground running prior to the 13th edition of Indian Premier League, which is slated to be held in UAE from September 19 to November 8.
