Former West Indies skipper Daren Sammy has extended his support to Makhaya Ntini after the latter opened up about the racism he had to face during his playing career.

On Friday (July 17), the ex-South African fast bowler accused his then teammates of making him feel isolated.

The 43-year-old Ntini, who played alongside the likes of Shaun Pollock, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher and Lance Klusener among others, spoke about his experience in the wake of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement which gathered momentum following the killing of African-American George Floyd in police custody on May 25.

Taking to Twitter, Sammy wrote: “Yow this is sad and here I was wanting to be as fit as Makhaya Ntini not knowing the reason for all this running to and from stadiums. Literally running away from loneliness. Shame on his teammates. You will always be a hero to us.”

Last month, Sammy himself had made shocking revelations about racism in cricket. The two-time T20 World Cup winning skipper alleged that he and Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera faced racist jibe while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In his Instagram story, Sammy, who represented SRH in 2013 and 2014, said he and Perera were called "kalu" during their stints with the franchise.

Other Caribbean cricketers like Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite, the legendary Michael Holding among others have been vocal supporters of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.

Moreover, England and West Indies players took the knee to show combined support to the #BlackLivesMatter campaign ahead of the first Test match in Southampton last week.
