'Will always remain an important milestone in our journey as a Test side': Kohli recalls 2014 Adelaide Test

Virat Kohli made his Test captaincy debut in the 2014 Adelaide Test against Australia.

Virat Kohli remembers the iconic Adelaide Test match from 2014 | InstagramAustralia’s Adelaide Oval has been one happy hunting ground for the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. It is the same venue where Kohli registered his maiden Test ton during India’s disastrous tour of Australia in 2011-12.

The Delhi lad also made his Test captaincy debut on this very ground in December 2014. It was a thrilling affair in which Virat smashed centuries in each innings (115, 141) but Australia won the game by 48 runs.

The Test match was also an emotional one as it was played in the aftermath of Phillip Hughes’ tragic death after being hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield encounter.

On Tuesday (June 30), Kohli recalled that iconic Adelaide Test through an Instagram post.

The Indian skipper shared a couple of pictures from that game and captioned it as: “Throwback to this very special and important test in our journey as the test team that we are today. Adelaide 2014 was a game filled with emotion on both sides and an amazing one for people to watch too. Although we didn't cross the line being so close, it taught us that anything is possible if we put our mind to it because we committed to doing something which seemed very difficult to begin with but almost pulled it off. All of us committed to it. This will always remain a very important milestone in our journey as a test side.”

Virat Kohli never looked back as a captain after that Test match. During the course of the series, MS Dhoni retired from the longest format and Kohli was handed the full-time captaincy. As it turned out, he took the team from No. 7 to No. 1 rankings in Test cricket.

The Kohli-led Indian cricket team was dethroned from the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for the first time in close to four years after cricket parent's body announced the latest rankings in April.
