India skipper Virat Kohli's love for Test match cricket is not unknown. In fact, it is widely admired how vocal Kohli has been in championing the cause of the traditional format, especially at a time when limited-overs versions catch all the public attention.
On Wednesday (June 24), Kohli was at it once again, expressing his great affinity towards the highly "intense game" and gratitude in being able to wear the traditional whites for his country.
"Nothing comes close to playing an intense game in whites. What a blessing to be able to play Test cricket for India," wrote Kohli in an Instagram post.
Kohli has so far played 86 Test matches for India since his debut in 2011 and scored 7,240 runs at an average of 53.62, a record that puts him among the modern-day greats.
Just recently, former India captain and batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar, likened Kohli to West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards, who dominated the bowling with the same level of authority as he does.
"It was very difficult to keep Viv Richards quiet when he was at the crease," said Gavaskar on Star Sports' show 'Winning the Cup - 1983'.
"Similarly, if you look at Virat Kohli’s batting today, in the same ball and same line, he will use his top hand and score a boundary towards the extra cover region and will use the bottom hand and score a boundary towards the mid-on and mid-wicket region."
"That’s why Virat Kohli is considered as the No. 1 player because he bats exactly like Viv Richards. Earlier, Gundappa Vishwanath, VVS Laxman used to bat like this," he added.
