Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav is the only Indian cricketer to have two hat-tricks in One Day Internationals. His first one came in 2017 against Australia at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and the most recent hat-trick was at Vizag against West Indies in 2019.

Kuldeep also has a hat-trick at the Under-19 level, which came in World Cup 2014 against Scotland.

During a chat with Yuzvendra Chahal and Mayank Agarwal, Kuldeep talked about his hat-trick against West Indies and called it a special moment.

“It was a very important milestone in my life,” he said. The left-arm wrist-spinner had sent back Shai Hope, Jason Holder, and Alzarri Joseph in the 32nd over of the match. West Indies while chasing 388, were bowled out on 280.

“It was after a long time after the World Cup that me and Chahal were playing together. After the World Cup, either I was playing or Chahal was playing in a match. And it was also after a gap that I was making a return to the ODI team. This was an important hat-trick because a good performance motivates you. This will always remain special,” the bowler said.

Mayank asked Kuldeep to tell him about the extra slip fielders and whose plan was it. To which, the spinner said he himself wanted it. “The plan to put an extra slip was mine. I had the belief that I would be able to take the hat-trick as lower-order batsmen were on the crease,” he said.

“I thought if I put the ball on the wicket, the batsman could get bowled or can give a catch at slip. I knew what delivery I need to bowl to accomplish the hat-trick,” he further added.
