"Ravichandran Ashwin should make a great English commentator" - Aakash Chopra

"Ravichandran Ashwin should make a great English commentator" - Aakash Chopra

Ashwin has always been very articulate about his on-field exploits and comes across as an intelligent personality.

Ravichandran Ashwin | GettyHaving seen Ravichandran Ashwin operate as a very smart and intelligent cricketer on the field and then articulate his exploits wonderfully during post-play interviews, Aakash Chopra thinks a great career in English commentary awaits the premier India off-spinner.

Talks around Ashwin the commentator have been going on for a while actually, with some of the renowned names from cricket broadcasting, including Sanjay Manjrekar, Harsha Bhogle and now Chopra foreseeing the cricketer's swift transition to the commentary box after his retirement.

"Ravi Ashwin should make a great English commentator, he will be good in the dugout (special expert commentary available on India's host broadcaster, Star Sports), he’s very bright, intelligent and smart," Chopra said on the 'RK Show'.

Ashwin has been India's best spinner of the last decade, especially in Test match cricket, where he continues to break record after another.

The 33-year-old has already taken 365 wickets at an average of only 25.4 across 71 Tests.

Chopra, meanwhile, also named current Indian players who he thinks will do a fine job in Hindi commentary.

"In Hindi, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav can be fun. Kuldeep is actually under-rated, he can be funny. So, Kuldeep Yadav will be my dark horse," said the former India opener, whose interesting style of commentary in Hindi has taken the game to masses across the country.

Chahal and Kuldeep have been absolutely brilliant for India in white-ball cricket since they formed their middle-overs duo in the aftermath of country's unsuccessful campaign in the 2017 Champions Trophy in the UK.
