Sourav Ganguly has seen Sachin Tendulkar play from close quarters and knows the man inside-out.

In all of his cricketing career, the former has seen Tendulkar cry just once in the dressing room. The incident happened in West Indies in 1997 when they lost a Test match failing to chase 120 against the Caribbean side.

Tendulkar was the captain of India on that tour and the team was close to winning their first overseas tour in the 90s.

It was a good opportunity because it was a good wicket to bat on and the opposition was a West Indies side which wasn’t at their peak. However, the touring Indians were skittled out for 81 and made the captain very angry.

Ganguly was a newcomer in the national side and hence Tendulkar asked him to run early morning every day if he wanted to keep his place in the side. Ganguly revealed this incident on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’ hosted by Gaurav Kapoor.

He revealed how Tendulkar was right at his place because a captain has to get angry sometimes in order to lead a team well which he learned in his days later when he became the skipper of India in 2000.

He was made captain when the Indian team needed to get back as a respectable side after the entire match-fixing saga ruined the greatness of the side in 2000-01.
