The morning of April 29, 2020, came with the shocking news of the sudden passing of Bollywood Actor Irrfan Khan. Irrfan, as he was dearly known, was 53 years old and had beaten cancer previously.
He had been admitted to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital with complications from colon infection on the night of April 28. The morning brought the sad news of the talented actor breathing his last and his family removing him from the ventilator.
More sadly, he had lost his mother three days ago in Jaipur and he couldn’t attend her funeral due to COVID 19 lockdown.
Born on January 7, 1967, Irrfan started his career on TV with serials like Chandrakanta, Chanakya and moved to movie roles in Salaam Bombay, while his big break came in Haasil in 2003, which netted him the Filmfare award for Best Villain. Then came powerhouse performances like Maqbool, Life in a Metro, The Namesake, and Hollywood sojourns like the Life of Pi, Jurassic World, A Mighty Heart, and the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire.
He won the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in Paan Singh Tomar. In 2018, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as high-grade neuroendocrine cancer and spent time in London getting treated for the same.
He returned to feature in his final movie, Angrezi Medium and left us with a diverse body of work ranging from comedies to drama, to light-hearted romance and action. His range of emotions and dialogue delivery put him above his contemporaries and he will always be remembered as a great actor and above all, a great human being.
The Indian cricket fraternity was equally shocked to learn of the demise of the talented Irrfan Khan and took to Twitter to pay respects to one of the greatest actors of our generation.
