Swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle on Monday (April 27) ripped apart former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan for his release from Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Jamaica Tallawahs.
In a three-part video uploaded on his Youtube channel, Gayle labelled Sarwan as “snake” and called him “worse than Coronavirus”.
“Sarwan, you are worse than the Coronavirus right now. What transpired with the Tallahwahs, you had a big part to play. Sarwan, you were the one who gave a big speech at my birthday party about how far we have come. Sarwan, you are a snake. You know, you are not the most loved person in the Caribbean. You are so vindictive, you are still immature, you are back-stabbing,” Gayle said.
“In everybody’s eyes, you acted as if you were this saint, this good person…. Sarwan, you’re evil, you’re wicked, you’re poison. You let a thing like this transpire,” he added.
Last week, St Lucia Zouks roped in Gayle as their marquee player for the 2020 edition of CPL. The southpaw will play under the leadership of Daren Sammy at St Lucia.
Gayle has also played for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the past and won the CPL title twice with Tallawahs.
The 40-year-old wanted to end his career with Jamaica and that’s why he had signed a three-year contract with the franchise.
“I told Sarwan directly that ‘Sarwan, you have no experience being a head coach. It is not an easy job,” said Gayle.
He also accused Sarwan of imposing restrictions on players and being biased.
“The amount of lies this guy told on the players. Sarwan wanted to put curfew on the players when the games were 8 ‘o’clock at night…he wanted to know why there were so many Jamaicans on the team. You take it upon yourself and say too many Jamaicans on the team.”
Fondly known as the Universe Boss, Gayle also pointed out a bizarre reason that could have played a part behind his ouster.
“This is all coming from one visit to Guyana. Apparently, Guyana had their election and the minister invited me to his community and the other side, which the owner is a part of as well, got offended and they all take it personal,” he said.
Chris Gayle is the only batsman in the world to score 10,000+ runs in Twenty20 cricket and hit 22 hundreds in the format, with the highest score of 175*. He is also the leading CPL run-scorer of all-time, having aggregated 2,344 runs in the tournament.
