The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is celebrating his 47th birthday today, on April 24, 2020.
Born to Marathi novelist Ramesh Tendulkar and Rajni Tendulkar on April 24, 1973, in Mumbai Suburb of Dadar, he was named after legendary music composer Sachin Dev Burman.
Sachin showed a tremendous appetite for cricket and was coached by Ramakant Achrekar. Sachin made his Test debut for India at the age of 16, in Karachi against Pakistan in 1989. He showed his valor with a half-century in one of the Tests and scored his first Test hundred against England in 1990.

In a career spanning 24 years, Sachin scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests with 51 centuries and 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs with 49 centuries. He holds the record for the first man to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, the first man to play 200 Tests, score 100 international centuries, first male cricketer to score a double hundred in ODI cricket, most runs in ODIs and Tests, most matches played in both formats and other numerous records.
Tendulkar also won the World Cup in 2011 and has captained India in both Tests and ODIs. Widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, along with Sir Don Bradman, Tendulkar captivated the audiences in the 1990s, as fans would turn off their TV sets after Sachin got out in a match. He single-handedly carried the Indian batting in the 90s, with little support from others.
Sachin Tendulkar received the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 2014, making him the first sportsperson to get the honor. He was the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1997 and player of the tournament in 2003 World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar was also a member of Rajya Sabha, with his tenure ending in 2018.
