Cricket Australia on Tuesday (January 21) named Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar as the coach of star-studded Ricky Ponting XI for bushfire charity cricket match.

In order to raise funds for the bushfire victims, Ricky Ponting XI will lock horns with Shane Warne XI on February 8.

After hearing the news that Tendulkar will mentor his team in the all-important contest, Ponting had tweeted: “How great is it to have @sachin_rt taking part in the Bushfire Cricket Bash and giving up his time to come out for the cause. Picked the right team to coach too!”

Overwhelmed by Ponting’s words, the Master Blaster on Wednesday (January 22) replied: “Chose the right team and more importantly the right cause my friend.”

Sachin also hoped that the clash named 'Bushfire Cricket Bash' will serve the purpose of helping the victims of the tragedy.

“Hope that the Bushfire Cricket Bash will offer some relief to the people and wildlife in Australia,” he further wrote.

It is pertinent to mention here that West Indies bowling great Courtney Walsh will coach Shane Warne XI in the charity match.

Tendulkar and Walsh will also coach legends like Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Shane Watson, Alex Blackwell, and Michael Clarke, among others.

All match profits and funds raised on the day will go to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.

The raging bushfires have already killed 29 people in Australia and destroyed more than 2,000 homes in recent months.
