Cricket Australia on Tuesday (January 21) announced that Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar will coach the star-studded Ricky Ponting XI for bushfire charity cricket match.
In order to raise funds for the bushfire victims, Ricky Ponting XI will lock horns with Shane Warne XI on February 8.
After hearing the news that Tendulkar has been appointed as his team’s coach, Ponting was left elated.
Taking to Twitter, the former Aussie skipper wrote: “How great is it to have @sachin_rt taking part in the Bushfire Cricket Bash and giving up his time to come out for the cause. Picked the right team to coach too!”
It is worth mentioning here that West Indies bowling great Courtney Walsh will coach Shane Warne XI in the charity contest.
Tendulkar and Walsh will also coach legends like Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Shane Watson, Alex Blackwell, and Michael Clarke, among others.
The raging bushfires have already killed 29 people in Australia and destroyed more than 2,000 homes in the last few months.
A host of sportspersons, including Warne, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell have already raised funds for the bushfire victims.
